[The legendary legacies of David]
We have come a long interesting way on this subject of purpose. This first phase of this series featured the cases of Jesus, John the Baptist, Samson and Prophet Samuel.
We beamed our study light on our Lord and these patriarchs, to learn how they went about fulfilling their unique destinies.
In this second phase (ending with this 8th edition), we have considered the lives of Jonah, Noah, Dorcas, and lastly on this edition, we shall bring on board the legendary legacies of King David.
Shepherd Boy Anointed For Purpose
After God created Adam, he breathed into Him the breath of life, then He empowered him, saying: 'Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth and subdue it...' (Gen. 1:28)
This was the anointing that Adam received. I used this primal example to assert that there is a God-dimension required in our lives for the effective operations of our purposes. David was not exempted.
Long before he was enthroned as King, David had long been anointed to be King by Prophet Samuel, as directed by God. (See 1Samuel 16:13) There is an empowerment from God called 'anointing' that you need upon your life for the preservation and fulfilment of your purpose.
Locate Your Prophet
Bishop David Oyedepo, in his testimony said that God directed him to a 'human source' through whom God's empowerment would settle on him, for his purpose. That according to him was Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
David's prophet was Samuel. Have you found your prophet? God has human channels on Earth through which He releases His anointing. Locate yours.
The 13th verse of 1Samuel notes that '...the Spirit of God came upon David from that day forward'. Whatever your purpose is, you need empowerment from the One who assigned you the purpose.
From Little to Greatness
Shortly after David's anointing, there was a need in the palace for a musician. The anointing introduced David. The servant who made the recommendations added in David's CV: 'And the Lord is with him'. (1Samual 16:18)
David was summoned and asked to resume duty with immediate effect. 'And it came to pass when the evil Spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took the harp, and played... so Saul was refreshed...' (1Sam16:23)
This was his little beginning in the process of approaching his purpose. God testified, 'I have found David my servant, and with my holy oil have I anointed him'. (Ps. 89:20)
The later verses contain the expanse of God's grace upon him. Yet, he (David) had to begin as a servant: one event led to another, and finally he became King. There were many reasons to quit his purpose, but he held on. So, I'm saying to you, hold on! You may start little, but your later end shall greatly increase. Hold on.
David: A Man After God's Heart
We do not know exactly when God started assessing David to choose him over Saul and Eliab. (See 1Sam 16:16,7) However, we know the numerous qualities of David that made him God's favourite.
Among them are: dedication, reverence for God, meditation, thanksgiving and humility. In your endeavour to fulfill your purpose in life, above are the good examples of David to emulate.
David was a God-chaser. (Ps.63:8) David feared the Lord. (1Sam 26:8-11) David kept his heart on his God and God's word. (Ps. 119:97); David was addictively thankful to God. (Ps. 136); David was humble.
Our quest to fulfill our destinies will yield productively as we follow the footprints of the models discussed in this series.
