Understanding the unique functions of our lives
“The Spirit of God is upon me, for He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor.
"He hath sent me to the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”
(Luke 4: 18 KJV)
Exemplary Jesus
It is a privilege for me to use this text as the principle scripture for this article.
For me, this is the highest definition of purpose and of course the greatest purpose of birth since the world began.
Life without purpose is a waste of life, a waste of resources and a gross abuse of existence and its essence. Bishop David Oyedepo puts it thus, ‘Life without a right bearing is a burden’.
Living for a Reason
Jesus came to the world for a purpose.
He did not come to check out how the world was. He came for a more fulfilling purpose.
On His return from the mountain of prayer, as seen in our text above, He went to the synagogue.
As His manner was, He was given a scroll to read, and therein, he found his destiny, the very reason why he came to the earth was read out!
Without Purpose, Life is Miserable
Living without a purpose is like setting out without direction of where you are going. Imagine a pilot without destination, any available airport becomes the destination, or destruction becomes the destination.
Every product (for instance) has a function, a reason it was created. The phone in your hand was created to help you to communicate with others, and to perform other digital functions. Your shoes, clothes, and jewelleries were created to cover you and make you look good.
While these objects exist, they serve their purposes. While they serve their purpose, you celebrate and take care of them.
When they’re faulty (beyond repairs) you discard them. Practically, people who have not discovered their purpose or living without clearly defined purpose are obviously relegated.
Discover and Live Your Purpose
Jesus came to the earth conscious of His purpose. His discovery of purpose in the Scriptures serves as an example to us.
For three and half years, He demonstrated this purpose. He lived it! The accounts flood the whole of the new testaments! As Christians, we emulate our Master, Jesus. Discover your purpose in the the Word of God!
I've shared more in the second part. God bless you.
