"Also, the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown out in the lake, which catches all kind of fish. When it is full, the fisherman pull it to shore and sit down to divide the fish, the good ones go into their buckets, the worthless ones are thrown away."
Matthew 13: 47– 48
What is a Parable?
Jesus used several illustrations to drive home his teachings. One of such illustrations is the use of parables. A parable is a short story that teaches a moral or spiritual lesson.
Talking about the lifestyle, nature of the kingdom of Heaven and the impacts it creates in the lives of those who have and operate in it, Jesus used the mustard seed to illustrate.
The Judgement
Amongst the things that Jesus explained to his disciples in the closet using parable was the end time, and judgment. In this parable, Jesus gives a foreshadow of the method the Father hopes to end this world and our journey here on earth. This shouldn’t make you afraid. The sea represents the world and the net –judgment.
The Sea and the Net
The sea in the text above is this world which houses boundless spheres and breed of people. The net is thrown into the water, fishes swin into it. Crabs, dirt, sticks, and other objects in the sea gets trapped in the net.
The world which God created as recorded in Genesis chapter one, was originally made for the people of God, which God hoped to raise through Adam. We’re all God’s children, let’s live for him.
The Fall of Man
Unfortunately, at the fall of Adam, man became so vulnerable to corruption and sin. Satan had more privileges of running over people’s lives and capturing them for his evil works, up until recent times.
This is evident in the evil and wickedness we see on the earth today: murders, worldly living, and so on, are been carried out by these (sons and daughters of God who turn) agents of the devil. Also, the rate of indulgence is on a rise.
Jesus foresaw the future and said in the words of this parable, as a way of notifying us of judgment and warning us against becoming victims.
Friends, at the end of this world, Jesus is going to separate from the catch –his people and discard the those who have allowed themselves to be used by the devil (without repentance). This parable is similar to the Parable of the Wheat and Tares.
The Angels of God will Do The Separation
The next verse (49) says that the angel of God will conduct the separation, they’d throw away the polluted breeds or wrong catches.
Finally, my friends, God made you and put you in His Sea (the world). Live for Him, seek him, and serve Him. He loves you and wants you to end well.
Do no reject his love and offer of salvation. There shall be no escape. The net will gather everyone, and selection will be based on Jesus. This truth sounds bitter, but it is good, that you may be watchful of your life.
God bless you.
