Oh! Everyone that thirst, come ye to the waters, and he that has no money, come ye, buy and eat. Yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
Isaiah 55: 1
The Quest for Satisfaction
When I read the Expositor’s Bible Commentary on this scripture, I realised that far back in the law, before the coming of Jesus Christ, God had always called out to His people to Himself.
As it unfortunately is today, so had it been in the days of Prophet Isaiah –that people were drawn after their own ways, far from God.
People missed out on the ideal and vision of why they were created. Therefore sending Isaiah, God called out to His people whom He created for fellowship, to trace back to him.
The Priceless Milk and Water
Priceless means extremely valuable. This is a lovely offer from a God and friend reaching out to His weary sons and daughters, who toil the shores of life without the compass of the Creator and without comfort.
The commentary says that 'wealth and money cannot satisfy the soul whom God created for submission and fellowship'. Satisfaction is only in the Creator.
Only God Satisfies
The next verse of that scripture says ‘Wherefore, do you spend money for that which is not bread, and your labour for that which satisfieth not? Harken diligently unto me, and eat that which is good…’ (KJV).
Only God has the satisfaction and fulfilment of our lives. Seek satisfaction in God not things.
A car won’t give you satisfaction, a house won’t, and money, spouse and other things won’t!
Without God, the excitement, as usual, shall dwindle, revealing the spacious vacuum which can only be filled by God, if you seek him. (See verse)
Jesus, the Access to Satisfaction
After a feast (as recorded in John 7: 37), Jesus stood out and repeated the words of Prophet Isaiah, ‘If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink...' (KJV).
God, descending to demonstrate his love and quest for fellowship offered His connection channel —Jesus, that all who meet Him would receive refreshing and satisfaction.
He Calls Out To You Today
One thing is remarkable: He owns the product, and yet calls out to consumers, to offer it free!
Without a price!
“Come unto me all that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
Quench the thirst of your soul, answer to the invitation, and come to the waters, the place of rest and headquarters of the satisfaction of God – Jesus Christ.
Drink and be satisfied.
Shalom.
