Developing Our Covenant Work With God
We have many things to say, [but] hard to be uttered, seeing that ye are dull in hearing. The time which ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that someone should teach you again the basics of the gospel, and have become as one who has need of milk, and not of strong meat.
13 For everyone that uses milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongs to them of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised, to discern both good and evil.” (Hebrews 5: 11b – 14)
Introduction
If you go into Nursery class and started teaching engineering mathematics, or stylistics, you would only be entertaining the children with big words. You'd even confuse them with strange writings on the board. They won’t understand, no matter how hard you try. 😃
The reason is that they do not have the capacity to learn that yet! They’re still babes. In fact, they don’t need that at that point. Nobody is going to blame them for not knowing engineering mathematics and stylistics.
But there come a time in their lives when they shall be expected to know that complex topics. At this time of their lives, they have to grow.
You have to Grow
I have noticed in some companies, and government ministries, that when a staff upgrades his curriculum vitae with a certificate obtained after some training or course, his chances of more opportunities and promotions increases. This happens because it is believed he has learnt more and would impact more on the company.
Timothy speaking in the verses above explains clearly that a child still feeding on milk does not qualify for meat. If he is given meat, he will mess it up, because he doesn’t have teeth, or the teeth are not strong yet!
They are hard stuff God is bringing your way. ‘Hard’ here refers to heavy duty blessings, task, responsibility and honour, but we need spiritual capacity and depth to understand and receive them.
Grow by the Word
If you can plan and execute plans on your own, and you know less of God’s Word, you are far below, below the expectations of God. He doesn’t (always) come down to our level, we go up to His, and we do this by studying the word, to get on His frequency.
As you navigate your day through, God has information for you on every bus stop, but you have to be able to hear him and understand his direction. If you don’t study the word, you will be ‘dull of hearing’.
By studying the word you become versed in the knowledge of God’s operations and thereby become built up, to receive deeper revelations on issues of your life and calling.
May God help you to grow in the word, in Jesus name. Don't stop studying. Keep praying. God bless you.
