a. “There was a certain rich man who was clothe in purple and fine linen, and fed sumptuously every day. And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores.
b. “And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by angels into Abraham’s bosom. The rich man died also, and was buried; and in hell, he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
c. And he cried and said ‘Father Abraham have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue for I am tormented in this flame' . But Abraham said, ‘son, remember that thou in thy lifetime received thy good things and likewise Lazarus evil things. But now, he is comforted, but thou art tormented.
d. 'And beside all these, between us and you, there is a great gulf fixed, so that they which pass from here to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from there.'
e. “Then he said, 'I pray thee therefore, father, that thou would send him (Lazarus) to my father’s house. For I have five brethren, that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.'
f. “Abraham said unto him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets, let them hear them,’ And he said, ‘Nay, father Abraham, but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent'. And he (Abraham) said unto him, ‘If they hear not Moses, and the prophets neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.' " (Luke 16: 19 – 31 KJV)
Just Riches?
The rich man probably thought his riches were all he would ever need. But, that did not grant him access into God’s eternal rest. He had all the material things he wanted but did not have the most important requirement at the judgment seat –Christ Jesus. Leaving all his wealth behind, he burned. Sadly enough, he did not know his wealth will not secure for him eternal rest.i guess you don't want to share in the regrets of the rich man. Then repent.
Is God Against Riches?
The rich man thought a messenger from the dead would be a more convincing proof that hell is real, and that Jesus saves, but father Abraham said (in 'f' above) that the Bible which you have, your pastor and other preachers sent by God are already doing the preaching.
If you and I wouldn’t hear and repent, then messengers from the dead wouldn’t sound any more convincing. Besides, there are numerous cases of people who had the revelations of torment in hell, and the glory of Heaven. Sometimes, the stories are ridiculed and ignored.
Repent, Turn to God
Do not wait for a messenger from the dead. Do not wait for someone who died or saw the vision of hell to tell you it is real, learn from the rich man; he'll is real! Hell is not for you. The arms of Christ is open to you. Get in. Embrace Him. Remain blessed.
