[The forms we see and recognise the Holy Spirit]
Do you have challenges recognising the Holy Spirit when He manifest? Here are some hints on recognising the Holy Spirit. Like I explained in the previous editions of this series, the Holy Spirit is a invisible personality. However, there are forms which have been associated with His manifestations.
One Spirit, Diverse Manifestations
Before we proceed to list the forms of manifestations of the Holy Spirit, it is pertinent to establish that the Holy Spirit is one. There is one Holy Spirit. He is a mystery. He functions in as many lives as the Father desires. He is not diverse against Himself, He shows up and manifest in different forms and ways. These forms are spiritual, because He is a spirit.
Wind, Dove and Fire
The Holy Spirit first manifested as a dove in the New Testament. Matthew 3:16 reports that the Spirit of God descended upon Jesus during baptism 'like a dove'.
Another manifestation was on the day of pentecost, in the upper room, at Jerusalem. The sign that signaled the arrival of the Holy Spirit while the disciples were praying was 'a sound from heaven as a rushing, mighty wind.' The wind filled the house and next, 'there appeared on them cloven tongues like fire.' (Acts 2:1-3)
These were the external manifestations of the Holy Spirit as reported by the people at these events.
Utterance, New Tongues
The effect of this fire and rushing wind was readily observed on the switch in their declarations: '...and they began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.' (Acts 2:4)
This particular edition is informative. The Holy Spirit does not have a fixed style of manifestation. He shows up the manner which He chooses. Sometimes silence could be His response.
A Still Voice
The Holy Spirit speaks. He delivers different messages to different people in different situations. In Acts 10:19, shortly after Peter arose from his vision, the Spirit said to Him 'Behold, three men seek thee. Arise therefore and get down with them, doubting nothing.'
In Acts 8:28,29, while the Ethiopian Eunuch was reading the Scriptures without understanding, the Spirit said to Philip, 'Go near and join thyself to this chariot.'
The Holy Spirit speaks. He has a word for you always, but you have to tune in to His frequency.
He Manifest Through Your Feelings
This seems to be a more recurrent manifestations of the Holy Spirit in my life. The Bible says the Apostles wanted to go to Asia, but the Spirit withstood them. This was an impression on their feelings, I guess. They must have felt uncomfortable with the decision. (Acts 16:6)
The elders at Jerusalem concerning the issue of adult circumcision of the Gentile converts said, '...for it seem good to the Holy Ghost and to us...' (Acts 15:28)
If you have received the Holy Spirit, then listen for His special manifestations in and through you.
