[Prioritising Jesus]
"But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea, doubtless and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ."
Phil. 3:7-8
Take Over, Lord
Jesus arrested Saul on his way to Damascus and caused him to change his mission. Paul immediately complied. He let go of his past.
He forfeited his status as a well respected member of the rulling class. He let go and followed Jesus. Later, he became a leading teacher of God's mysteries.
What he found in Jesus (by revelation) was worth leaving the world.
He said 'What things were gain to me previously, now, they make no sense to me.. (Paraphrased) Not because he joined another political party that supported his political ambitions, but because He discovered a higher life, a better life.
This is my emphasis –there is a higher and better life in Christ Jesus. It is logical to leave good for better. Life we without Jesus is incomplete.
Paul listed his numerous credentials which he gave up for Jesus and the Gospel. Jesus is more excellent than all He ask us to let go.
Your high profile in society and status does not replace the need for Jesus in your life. Paul was highly revered in his time, but, he put aside all that, at the revelation of Jesus.
Maybe you need a revelation too. May God reveal His excellency to you, Jesus name.
Let Go!
The irony is that when you let go of things for his sake, He gives them back to you, usually a better version of whatever you let go.
For instance, if you make money through immoral ways just to survive, when you let go of that for His sake, He will make another way, or put differently, He will become the way for you.
Whatever, the Holy Spirit has been talking to you about letting go, I encourage you to let go.
Most times, He doesn't intend to deprive you of the pleasure and benefits of those things and people, He wants to ensure nothing else is at the center of your heart.
I have encountered this many times. It is not easy to drag on something with the Holy Ghost.
I have learnt to say 'Your will be done.' It is painful to say 'Yes' to the Holy Ghost sometimes, but I encourage you to comply to His leading.
What He's saying may not make sense to you apparently, but His thoughts are higher than yours.
Sometimes, He'll ask you let go of something as a way to test your heart.
He wants to ensure your priorities are right. He wants to be number one in your heart. As you grow in your walk with Him, you may encounter this.
Don't put anything or anyone before Him. Put him first. He is worth that priority.
