[The mystery of obedience]
And it came to pass as he went to Jerusalem that He passed through Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, they met him ten men that were lepers who stood afar-off and they lifted up their voices and said 'Jesus, Master, have Mercy on us'.
And when he saw them, he said unto them, 'Go show yourselves unto the priest. And it came to pass that as they went, they were cleansed." Luke 17:11-14
No Laying of Hands?
I read in Peter Tan's book "The Anointing of the Holy Ghost", how the anothing has a specific way God wants it to be used each time it manifest.
In this case, Jesus Christ the Anointed One gives a graphic demonstration of His dynamism in bringing the Kingdom of God upon people.
For the woman that was bent over, He put his hands on her; for blind bartimaeus, He put his hands on him;: for Lazarus, He called out with a loud voice. For the paralytic man lowered from the roof, he looked on him and said 'Take your bed and go.'
But for these lepers, he didn't say anything lexically related to the situation. He didn't lay hands on them, rather, He said, 'Go, show yourselves to the priest.'
The Bible says that as they went, they were cleansed. Their miracle was effected as they acted in obedience, even when it didn't make sense.
An army general, Neman, came to see the Prophet Elijah, concerning his leprosy. Elijah did not come out to receive him, he rather sent Gehazi his servant to instruct him to go to the Jordan River and dip himself seven times.
The General was offended. He said he expected the servant of God to at least come out and lay hands on him. Feeling disappointed, he left, deciding not to go, but for the persuasion of his servant.
He later went and did as he was instructed, and he was cleansed.
How many times have you missed God's visitation because, instead of a direct answer to your needs, the Holy Ghost told you to be calm or said something different.
You might feel disappointed like Neman, but you have to recognise that once you secure His attention, the methods He chooses is the one He will use. This may not be as expected.
Imagine that the lepers felt offended and left for their homes, they would have missed the blessings. Think of it, was the priest going to heal them? Were they going to show leprous hands and bodies to the priest?
It took faith to act like this men did. They left, and on their way, what Jesus did not mention in words happened.
When you come to God, do not prescribe to him, submit to him. If the lepers insisted on how they wanted their healing, they may have missed it. But they simply obeyed.
In your own case too, obey. Do it His way and you'll have result. Obey. God bless you.
