[The public impact of a leader's personal life and decisions]
"Satan stood up against Israel and incited David to number Israel. So David said to Joab, and the commanders of the army, 'Go number Israel from Beersheba to Dan and bring me a report that I may know their number.'" 1Chronicles 21:1-2
Based on God's covenant with Abraham, that his descendants will be unnumbered as the sand of the sea shore and as the star of heaven, it was unlawful for any king of Israel to number the people. Genesis 15:5
The Enemy Has Done This
I found out that if the devil wants to destroy or hurt you, he will incite or provoke you to do something God said "Don't". This is why Jesus recommended that we should pray so we don't get into temptation.
The devil can plant tares in your heart to combat with the good seed of God's word, but prayers can keep him at bay. So, pray without seizing for yourself and for your leaders.
Punish Me Instead
This is the petition David brought before the Lord when the pestilence broke out because he numbered Israel. (See 1st Chronicles 21 verse 17) God's anger did not just rest on David, but on the entire nation. Pestilence broke out and brought down 7,000 men, but God's mercy intervened.
Mercy is Still Available
I like you to know that God's mercy is still available. If you are facing the scourge of vengeance or divine punishment, Christ Jesus made provision for reconciliation. Engage this possibility in prayers. David quickly raised an altar and appeased the Lord, and the plague was terminated.
"And David built there an altar onto the Lord and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings and called upon the Lord and he answered him from Heaven by fire upon the altar of the burnt offering and the Lord commanded the Angel that he put his sword again into the Shield thereof". 1Chronicles 21:26,27
Be a Praying Leader
David understood that if prayers are raised as sacrifice unto God, he will lift the trouble. Be a praying leader. Are you suffering the consequences of the decision and actions of your forbearers? Raise an altar of prayer. Christ Jesus paid the price to stop the plague. Now lay down sacrifices of prayers. Men ought always to pray.
Pray for your leaders; ask the Holy Ghost to influence their heart and decision-making process. When righteous rules, the people rejoice. God bless you.
