[The public impact of a leader's personal life and decisions]
And Abraham journeyed from there towards the South country and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sorjourned in Gerar.
And Abraham said of his wife Sarah, 'She is my sister', and abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah. Genesis 20: 1-2
This is Abraham, scared that he might be killed and his wife taken from him, he negotiated with Sarah (as seen in verse 13), that she should admit that they are siblings (which truly they were).
They arrived in Gerar and Abimelech sent for Sarah perhaps to make her one of his wives or make her his concubine. I think he was guilty of covertness.
Could this be way the king behaved whenever a beautiful stranger arrived in his Kingdom?
If the impact of this action only affected him, this article would not have been necessary, but this singular action of covertness affected his family and the entire palace.
God shut their wombs. For this to have been noticed, he must have been in possession of Sarah for not less than a year.
Could it be that what you're facing is the consequence of someone's action in history or present. Whether or not you are sure, you have to do something —atonement.
Before I talk about atonement, how about the glutenous Abimelech's we still have today. They are never satisfied with their wives they are after people's wives and teenagers and other women.
Anyone in this attitude should know that the impact of those multiple covenants will spill on their children and people around him negatively.
If Paul said 'Let there be no fornicator among you, it implies that there is a spiritual flux that characterizes the proximity of a fornicator and adulterer.
In verse 3, God appeared to King Abimelech and instructed him to return Sarah to Abraham with apology.
The king obeyed and Abraham prayed onto God and God healed Abimelech and his wife and his maidservants and they bore children.
For the Lord had closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech because of Sarah, Abraham's wife Genesis 20:17-18
Jesus, Our Peace Sacrifice
Abimelech went with sheep, oxen, men servants and and womenservants to appease Abraham as he returned his wife.
Jesus had been offered as a peace offering and atonement for any of our past leaders' sins. Engaged this possibility in prayers, and if you're directly involved in a compromise, like Abimelech, repent!
Happy new month!
