[The intolerability of sin before God]
"And the Lord said, because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great and because their sin is very grievous, I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which come unto me, and if not, I will know.' Gen 18:20-21 (KJV)
This is the meditation of the Lord Himself about the 'cry' of Sodom and Gomorrah, ancient cities which was plagued by the spirit of sexual immoralities. They were the pioneers of homosexuality and the sorts according to Bible history.
Who Sent the Cry?
The Scripture shows that God's decision to come down and see for Himself was a response to an invitation or an attraction. The Living Bible translate the word 'cry' as 'report'.
Someone sent a report to God, somehow. It was a devilish whoredom spirit, that dominanted the land. It perhaps legalised sexual immorality, such that the men went after strangers who turned into Lot's house, without any sanction by the local administration, but for God's intervention.
There's no record of who sent the report but I deduce here that just like good works of men come before the Lord through Christ, the evils and sins of men too call on God's attention.
In the text above, God said, 'their sin is very grievous.' So how did God know? The same way Abel's blood cried to God from the ground, it is the same way, sin cried to God. Thank God for the blood of Jesus!
Sin calls on God for judgment. Satan uses our sin as a ticket to make charges against us before God, but the blood of Jesus speaks in our favour.
Align, Cry..
Sin is the nature of the fallen man, but righteousness is our new nature in Christ. A true Believer is not pleased with sin, and if he falls, he seeks alignment with God.
God's conversation with Abraham about Sodom and Gomorrah reveals God's willingness to be merciful if there is genuine repentance.
He was willing to spare the land if he found as low as 10 just or repentant men. There is no big or small sin. All sins are distasteful before God.
It will take your brokenness to partake in the redemption provision made available in Christ. God resist the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
Turn away from all sorts of evils and seek to be right with God. Read my article "Morality and Spirituality" for more on this.
Be humble to bear the convictions of the Holy Ghost who is sent to help you and when you err.
Admit your flaw when He convicts you. Don't try to defend yourself; fall and cry. A broken and contrite heart, He will not cast away. Repent and ask for help.
What He had said is wrong will NEVER be right in your own case.
Sin grieves the Holy Ghost who is sent to help you and when He is grieved, your productivity and relationship with Him is interrupted because in Him you live, move and have your being.
Live a life of total surrender. Flee from sin. 'Judge yourself so you'll not be judged.' 1Corinthians 11:31
However, if you are a perfect man/woman, you have no need of all these, but all have sinned, and so all need mercy. Cry for it. May God have mercy on us.
ππ Amen
