A depiction of God's love towards us
Supposing a woman who has ten silver coin loses one of them, what does she do? She lights a lamp, sweeps the house, and looks carefully everywhere until she finds it. When she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbours together. ‘Rejoice with me,’ she tells them, ‘for I have found the coin I lost!’
“In the same way, I tell you, the angels of God rejoice over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15: 8–10 TEV)
Reclaiming the Lost
In this parable, we find out that a certain woman’s possession got missing, and she went in search of the missing one –the lost. It is lost, yet still valuable. That’s the mission of the Kingdom of God established on the earth: to recover the lost.
Lost, Yet Valuable
In The Parable of the Lost Sheep, we saw that the shepherd kept the other 99 sheep and went in search of the missing sheep. Here, the owner of the coin keeps the nine coins, and goes in search for one. The coin here represents children of God who missed their way, and wandered into another fold.
They may not know that they are lost in the first place, and as far as they are not in the fold, they are exposed to so much danger.
Our emphasis is not in the danger, but in the value which the shepherd places on them (the lost). This means right in that mess, God still values you! While you are yet to break free from the addiction of alcohol, smoking, and sexual immoralities, God still values you. While you are yet to come to the knowledge of Christ, He still cares for you.
Watch, listen, He is sweeping the room to find you. Do not go into hiding. He wants you back.
Why Celebration?
The end part of the text says that she found the coin, called out to her neighbours and friends to come join her celebrate the recovery of her lost coin! Jesus loves you that’s why Heaven celebrates. I tell you, Jesus paid the supreme sacrifice, to retrieve you onto the Father.
As believers, we are the evidence of the saving power of God. Like a lost possession regained, we are God’s possession. That is why Heaven rejoices over one repented sinner.
Re-evaluate Yourself
If you’re already born again, this parable encourages you to re-evaluate yourself. Are you still in God’s fold? Like Adam, God has come calling, but some believers have moved away. He has come calling your name.
The truth is this, God loses nothing if we perish. He is God. He does not become bigger if we repent. It is to our advantage if we stay in His fold.
Remember, you are valuable to God. He celebrates your repentance. He desires you to be with Him. He is ready to reclaim you to Himself.
Turn to the Lord.
Remain blessed.
